EV THERMAL MANAGEMENT & SENSOR TECHNOLOGY GUIDE FOR MANUFACTURERS
Meeting the Demands of the Electrification Revolution in Transportation
The world of transportation is changing. By the end of this decade, most cars and trucks on roadways will run off electricity. Commuter planes, utility vehicles, and even trains aren’t far behind.
While thermal management has always been essential for vehicles to run at peak performance, it’s even more important for electric vehicles (EVs). Though technological wonders, there’s nothing more threatening to an EV’s battery than unchecked extreme temperatures.
In our e-book, “A Manufacturer’s Guide to EV Thermal Management & Sensor Technology,” we dig into the role sensors play in an EV’s function and safety.
We explore:
- Thermal management systems for EV batteries & beyond
- Thermal runaway detection & prevention
- Integrating sensors into EV design
- Optimizing fast charging
- & much more!

EV Thermal Management: An Absolute Must
With the drastic shift in how we move from point A to point B, comes a need for new, robust technology.
For electric vehicles of all types, fast, accurate, and responsive sensor technology installed throughout the vehicle is critical – especially for the battery. Temperature extremes on either end of the spectrum pose serious issues for the vehicle’s components.
Too hot and the battery’s cells may decompose and start the process of thermal runaway – one of the most dangerous and damaging battery thermal events. Too cold and the power unit’s performance degrades, reducing the lifespan and efficacy of the power unit.
With the appropriate sensor technology installed throughout the EV battery pack, the vehicle’s systems are able to immediately respond to temperature spikes or provide advanced warnings for battery thermal events.
Thermal Management Beyond the EV Battery Pack
While an EV battery is the most important component to maintaining an appropriate temperature range, EV thermal management extends to the rest of the vehicle.
From the charging port to the motor, thermal management systems allow EV components to run efficiently and with no undue stress. Like the battery pack, however, unchecked temperatures – particularly high temperatures – have adverse effects on performance. Like with an EV battery, sensor technology strategically integrated into EV design helps ensure temperature extremes never become a problem.
